The passing of Academician Shih Chang-ju in 2004, marked the end of the first generation of Anyang Yinxu archeologists.  The Anyang Research Group was established in June of that same year in order to continue the work of processing and publishing of data and artifacts from excavations in the Chinese Central Plain.  The IHP had previously established the His-pei-gang and Hsiao-tun research groups, under which Kao Ch’u-hsun and Shih Chang-ju oversaw the work of processing and publishing data from tombs and palace ruins.  After Dr. Kao passed away, Dr. Shih came to be in charge of work on both His-pei-kang and Hsiao-tun, but the data and artifacts from the two sites remained divided between the their respective groups.  The formation of the Anyang Research Group combined these.  At present, the group continues to process and publish excavation reports and manuscripts from early scholars, as well as other textual and visual documents related to the history of archaeology and the history of the IHP.
