自述 自述

  我的主要研究興趣為西方自由主義傳統與現代社會的交互關係。我的碩士論文以十九世紀後期牛津哲學家Thomas Hill Green之思想為題,討論唯心論哲學如何促進英國主流政治思想從古典自由主義(Classical Liberalism)到新自由主義(New Liberalism)的典範轉移,並證成政府在國民教育與財富重分配等面向上的責任。延續碩士階段的關懷,我的博士論文將焦點從理論轉向實踐層次,考察二十世紀上半葉英國最具規模的公民教育組織──工人教育協會(Workers’ Educational Association)──與唯心論思想的關聯。我的博士論文指出,該組織係在唯心論思想的指引下,開展大學推廣教育運動與國民教育改革倡議,但這些實踐經驗也逐漸暴露出該理想的局限性──唯心論思想低估了現代社會中參與式民主理想與專業主義邏輯間的矛盾,使得此思想/社會改革傳統在1930-1940年代間慢慢失去社會號召力。
  在過去的研究基礎上,我目前的研究方向大致有二:首先,擴大檢視二十世紀上半葉英國社會對於唯心論思想的討論與實踐,進而為該思想典範之興衰提供一個更系統性的解釋。其次,我也著手考察二十世紀上半葉英美進步派思想家(包括英國唯心論者)對於中國社會與倫理的關注與討論,以及這些探索對於英美主流社會思想的影響。
